Bellows Falls Rail Fan Day – June 29, 2008

Enjoy a wide array of rail related events in Bellows Falls.

Start with an artist talk from So Percussion as they discuss, and later play in concert, excerpts from Music for Trains, a new work they are creating that is inspired by the sights and sounds of Bellows Falls and Brattleboro and the railways that connect them. The Music for Trains mobile sound unit will be on site to record sounds and stories.

Then, take the Green Mountain Flyer at 11:00 am (or afternoon trip at 2:30 pm) from Bellows Falls to Chester Depot for a scenic ride through the hills of Vermont.

A short layover in Chester Depot will give participants the opportunity to visit Lisai’s market, eat at Curtis’ Barbeque Caboose (famous for their sauce featured by Rachel Ray), or visit the local hardware and country store before returning to Bellows Falls. The ride features waterfalls, covered bridges, and scenic vistas that you cannot see any other way!

Pre-order box lunches from Boccelli’s on the Canal, a very short walk from the Bellows Falls train station. They can be contacted at 802-460-1190.

Upon return to Bellows Falls, enjoy a concert by So Percussion at 1:30 pm and a slide show presentation by Gregory Thorp, a Bellows Falls native, as he presents his own collection titled “A Railroad Tribute” with live fiddle music. The slide show will be held at Boccelli’s On the Canal at approximately 2:30 pm. Check out Boccelli's website here.

Also, Maplewing Artisans is hosting a show of Gregory's prints - available for sale. Visit with the artist after the slide show and browse a wonderful array of local art.

Downtown shops open, including the downtown bookstore, featuring railroad books, art displays, Sam’s Outdoor Outfitters and many more!

Don’t forget to visit the Depot Square Gift Shop at the station in Bellows Falls for your railroad memorabilia.
